The inspiration for today's CSA came from my friend, the Boston based artist MCA. He asked me if I knew of any 8 year old girls in Australia to be a pen pal for his 8 year old daughter.
I thought what a great question that was, and how important writing is. How at any age, we should write down our thoughts, fears and dreams, even if it is written to ourselves. Let's start a diary, carry around a notebook, and start writing to ourselves more often, or to the 8 year old version of ourselves, in us all. That's why I drew 'Be Your Own Pen Pal'.
To me, the 3 characters in this drawing are the one person, at various stages of themself. It is a drawing about saving your ideas and dreams of your youth, looking at them with fresh eyes, finding the kernel of truth and the beauty within them, and making them yours again for the future.
Young ideas are not jaded by experience of what will, and what will not work. They have a purity and seminal quality that reflects the essence of you. Let's save them from within us, today. That's why I drew "Rescue Young Ideas".
